A LITTLE INFORMATION ABOUT US:

Pegasus Freightlines Limited co-ordinate a warehouse and distribution service with vehicles operating mainly in the UK after many years of European operation, but it is a measure of the success of a business that has grown from a one man outfit operating from home into a thriving business operating 22 vehicles and a 70,000 sq ft of storage space.

At the hub of the operations is Managing Director Melvyn Pooley and fellow Directors Hughie Ewing, John Ewing and Mark Ewing. Melvyn, known to everyone as Hank, devides his time between the warehouse at Terrington St Clement and the larger premises at Hamlyn Way in King's Lynn.

Pegasus was started by the late Stan Ewing in 1968 and when Stan retired in 1988 it was bought by son-in-law Hank and Stan's three sons, Hughie, John and Mark. Stan's daughter Gwen, Hanks wife, takes care of the accounts, while Hughie's wife, Sue does tachograph analysis and other admin work. Ross, Hank and Gwens son have recently joined the company as traffic co-ordinator. Mark does mainly UK driving after many years of continental work and John does the shunting from all the local companies that Pegasus have work with.

When Stan Ewing started the business back in '68 he had a transit van and work from home in Terrington St Clement. As the business grew we moved several times, although never far from Terrington. First it went to an old carrot topping factory and then to larger premises in King John Bank Way, Walpole St Andrew. Then in the early 80's after many years of renting, Pegasus invested in a piece of land in Sutton Bridge and a new warehouse was built. This was soon outgrown and land was purchased and land was purchased from Hank's father at Terrington and with major contracts in mind a 10,000 sq ft warehouse was built with a further 30,000 sq ft open storage.

Most of the fleet are on a maintainance contract but we also have our own workshop run by Trevor Blyth. Trevor has all the equipment to ensure a full repair and maintainance programme is strictly adhered to.

Most of the drivers live locally and some have been with Pegasus for several years. Paul Quantrill has been with the firm for more than 21 years.

Major customers for Pegasus include leading local companies like Foster Refrigerator (UK) Limited, Potterton Myson, Snap-on Sun Tec, Guy Raymond Engineering, Cooper Bearings, Decorative Sleeves V/S/A Products and Martin Mathew & Co to name but a few.We have a 40,000 square feet warehouse dedicated to the Fosters contract on the Hardwick Narrows industrial estate in King's Lynn, this involves a complete package, where we collect finished goods fromthe factory and transport to the Narrows warehouse and is stored until delivery is required by our vehicles. We also have 20,000 sq ft of warehouse where we operate a general store for our other regular customers.

When Pegasus took on the Foster's contract for warehouse and distribution, Fosters had a small warehouse in Tetbury in Gloucestershire, with a small vehicle base there for deliveries into South Wales, Devon and Cornwall. This has now moved to Nailsworth, Gloucestershire and is still operated by Paul Dent who was employed by Foster and moved to Pegasus when we took over.

The day to day running of the Foster contract is maintained by Keith Hunt who iis assisted by Kevin Starr and Ross Pooley. Hughey runs the warehouse with the help of Gerry Glasel. Ronnie Reed trunks the finished goods from the factory, load co-ordinators for the UK are Terry Fallery and Mark Woods, maintaining the correct loading and storage for the day to day running.

Technology plays a big part in maintaining the fleets reliability. We use a satellite tracking system by Minor Planet, this allows us to pinpoint exactley where a vehicle is at any moment in time, contact is by mobile phones.
